Court records and dramatic footage of a vehicle pursuit show some of their trails as the mission to apprehend all 10 New Orleans jail escapees gets closer to completion.
Following three Monday arrests, eight of the ten are in custody; two escapees in an SUV led officials on a high-speed chase throughout Texas streets, a pursuit captured on dashboard and body camera video.
A white SUV is seen in the footage doing a few U-turns and accelerating away while a huge line of law enforcement vehicles follows. The SUV stops; law enforcement agents arrive with weapons drawn; Jermaine Donald and Leo Tate are dragged out at gunpoint.
According to a statement, state police said members of a U.S. Marshals Service task force including Texas authorities received a tip the pair was in Walker County and subsequently spotted an SUV they thought was being used by the pair on State Highway 75 on Monday night before they launched pursuit.
Early Monday night, authorities reported, a third escapee was apprehended independently.
According to a statement, Baton Rouge police found and detained 26-year-old Lenton Vanburen following a tip indicating he was seated on a bench next to a department store. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill said in her own statement Monday that Vanburen had been imprisoned on allegations of breaking parole, possession of firearms by a felon and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
