Ukraine claims to have carried out its largest long-range attack in the war with Russia on Sunday following a string of significant strikes on forty Russian jets at four military facilities using smuggled drones.
Russia declared Ukrainian attacks in five areas to be a “terrorist act”.
Russian and Ukrainian negotiators are en route to Istanbul, Turkey, for a second round of peace negotiations on Monday, so the attacks reflect Russian and Ukrainian perspective.
Starting at the Ciragan Palace, the sessions are scheduled to begin at 13:00 local time (10:00 GMT).
Expectations are low since the two warring factions are far apart on how to call it quits.
Over the weekend, Ukrainian officials also reported a significant drone and missile attack on their territory.
Early on Monday, the governor of Kharkiv said that at least six persons—including a seven-year-old child—were hurt following a walkout in the city.
Elsewhere, Russia’s state news agency Ria said that an attempted arson assault in the east was foiled by the nation’s security service.
Two Primorye people reportedly were trying to damage a railway track on orders from Ukraine.
In February 2022 Russian President Vladimir Putin started a comprehensive invasion of Ukraine.
Including the southern Crimea peninsula acquired in 2014, Moscow now rules around 20% of Ukrainian land.
Late on Sunday, Zelensky said in various social media posts that he thanked SBU head Vasyl Maliuk with the “absolutely brilliant result” of the operation.
Every one of the 117 drones flown had a pilot, he remarked.
“The most interesting thing – and we can already say publicly – is that the ‘office’ of our operation on Russian territory was located right next to the FSB of Russia in one of their regions,” the Ukrainian president remarked.
Russia’s potent governmental security agency is the FSB.
Zelensky further mentioned that before to the strikes, every person engaged in the operation had been securely “led away” from Russia.
Promising to reveal additional information soon, the SBU said the harm to Russia’s strategic aircraft was worth almost $7 billion (£5 billion).
Independent confirmation of the Ukrainian accusations has not been obtained.
“The SBU imported movable wooden cabins later on after initially smuggling FPV drones into Russia. Once on Russian territory, the drones were concealed under the covers of these cabins, which had been set atop cargo vehicles,” the sources claimed.
“The roofs were remotely opened at the proper moment, and the drones launched themselves to target the Russian bombers.”
Irkutsk Governor Igor Kobzev verified that trucks launched drones against the Belaya military base in Sredniy, Siberia.
On Telegram, Kobzev said that there was no threat to life since the launch location had been secured.
Other attacks, according to Russian media sources, were likewise begun with drones rising from the lorries.
One user reports that the drones were flying from a Kamaz truck next to a petrol station.
Russian media claimed air defences were operational while covering the incident in Murmansk. Additionally being reported was the attack in Irkutsk.
