A lady whose car crashed into her garden on Saturday has asked for quick calming actions to be taken close to her house.
Living on Whittlesey Road, close to the B1040 at Thorney, Peterborough, Becky Guy said she thought over the past five years ten automobiles have smashed into the gardens of her and her neighbour.
Cambridgeshire Police said in the past 12 months that it had reacted to five collisions on Whittlesey Road between Thorney and Whittlesey, including two instances in which vehicles had smashed into a garden wall.
“This is one of many car [crashes] we have seen here in Stonebridge corner,” Ms Guy remarked.
“I spent Saturday in my kitchen. You are waiting for the bang after hearing the speed and the squealing. And [the crash] occurred, Ms Guy added.
“The only thing stopping the car from slamming into the house further is the ivy I permitted to flourish. She said, “It acted as a buffer.”
According to Cambridgeshire Police, the Saturday incident involving a car passing through a garden wall at roughly 17:30 BST claimed no injuries.
By 19:00 the car was taken from the hedgerow.
Although Ms Guy stated the national speed limit on Whittlesey route is 60 mph, nobody “should be driving at that speed on this road”.
“This will most likely be the tenth car in front of my neighbour’s lawn.
We have brought it up several times with the parish council.
“They resurfaced the road after putting these large chevron signs roughly a year ago, yet it helps nothing regarding speed.
“Most days we battle to get out of our driveway; the problem is not the volume of automobiles but rather the speed at which the vehicles are moving.
“We have no average or speed cameras here on this road, which would affect how people drive on it.”
“Before someone dies, someone ought to get behind [implementing speed measures]. It must be proactive rather than reactive.
Cambridgeshire County Council claimed Peterborough City Council had jurisdiction over the route.
Peterborough City Council and Thorney Parish Council have been contacted for a remark.
