Israel stated Thursday that two captives captured during an attack by Hamas in October 7, 2023, that started the conflict in the Gaza Strip had their remains found.
According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Shin Bet internal security agency and army had conducted a special operation recovering the remains of Judih Weinstein and Gad Haggai and returning them to Israel.
“My wife and I kindly offer our sincere sympathies to the loving families alongside with the people of Israel. Our hearts suffer for the most horrible loss. May their memories be blessed, he added in a statement.
In December 2023 Kibbutz Nir Oz revealed the early 70s deaths of Weinstein and Haggai.
On the morning of October 7, the couple was walking early near their Kibbutz Nir Oz residence when Hamas militants broke across the border into Israel, killing roughly 1,200 people, most of them civilian, and kidnapping 251.
Early in the morning, Weinstein was able to notify emergency personnel that she and her husband had been shot and transmit a note to her family.
Two sons and two daughters plus seven grandkids survived the couple, the kibbutz reported.
