Since early Thursday, 22 May, 2025, Israel has been bombing Gaza extensively, killing at least 85 people in many different areas. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, which also added that thousands more children and elderly persons who died in recent days in Gaza have been registered as “starvation-related deaths,” casualty figures are likely to rise among continuous bombardment.
In what has been said to be one of the most severe attacks since a ceasefire with Hezbollah was attained in November last year, Israel also carried out bomb strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon, killing at least one person. Based on the most recent UN situation report on the war-torn enclave, 81% of Gaza’s whole territory is now within Israeli-declared “militarized zones,” or subject to forced displacement orders. A methodical destruction of whole communities in the occupied territory, the UN Human Rights office has also noted a “escalating pattern” of Israeli strikes on crowded hospitals, residential apartments, even on tents and shelters housing the displaced Palestinians.
The UN Human Rights office claims that the use of weapons with wide area effects points to intentional, indiscriminate attack. The Israeli left wing and right wing are battling it out over yesterday’s Washington shooting incident, in which two officials were killed in a targeted shootout. The Israeli left has blamed the right wing for its constantly aggressive rhetoric directed against the Palestinians in Gaza as a “root cause of the attack.”
While the right claimed an attack on two diplomats in Washington had left wing offenders. Israel is also under great fire for its actions in Gaza. With the population running the risk of starving, many as 21 nations—including members of the G7 group—have demanded an immediate stop to Israeli operations in Gaza and permission of aid to enter Gaza.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israel’s campaign on Gaza has claimed at least 53,762 Palestinians dead and injured 122,197. The death count was revised by the Government Media Office to more than 61,700, stating thousands of missing persons beneath the debris are most likely dead.
