SEOUL, Korea — Targeting the ousted conservative a day after his liberal successor took office, South Korea’s liberal-led legislature on Thursday passed bills to start special investigations into former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s brief imposition of martial law in December and criminal allegations against his wife.
Following his Dec. 14 impeachment over the martial law controversy, Yoon and the caretaker administration of South Korea earlier vetoed the proposals.
New President Lee Jae-myung, a Democrat who won Tuesday’s emergency election set off by Yoon’s official April dismissal from office, is anticipated to sign the bills.
